This allows shifting under load without issues, as one would otherwise only be accustomed to with a rear derailleur. The carbon fiber reinforced plastic construction with aluminum teeth helps keep weight low while increasing torsional rigidity. The Hollowglide profile of the large chainrings also contributes to this.
