The new XTR hubs were developed for the highest demands in the MTB sector and constitute the crown jewel of Shimano's off-road programme. As is typical for Shimano, they take the pioneering role in the development and implementation of revolutionary new technologies. The Micro Spline freehub was developed in collaboration with DT Swiss, which allows Shimano to use cassettes with huge bandwidths and a small 10-tooth sprocket. At the same time, the freewheel principle was modified from toothed disc freewheel pawls. Thanks to the very fine teeth, the distance between the locking points is reduced to just 7.0°. Idling while paddling is significantly reduced and always gives you the best possible start, both in the race and on the track. The durable and robust bearing of the hub remains: proven cone bearings with hardened and polished steel bearing shells and stainless steel balls. In combination with labyrinth and contact seals, excellent durability and the well-known smooth running of the hub are achieved.
