The brand new Giro InsurgentT SphericalT aims to provide the protection, comfort, and ventilation our top riders demand, from the Enduro World Series to the Red Bull Rampage. Our engineers maximized helmet ventilation by focusing on the front intake points to provide a greater quantity of fresh air, optimizing the rear exhaust vents, and connecting everything with wide, deep internal channels that allow air to flow between the inside of the helmet and the hair. The internal padding, made from IONIC+ antibacterial material, is lightweight, soft to the touch, and designed to absorb sweat. Thanks to the extension of the front zone, the padding channels sweat droplets away from the eye area. For each of the three helmet sizes, there are two cheek pads of different thicknesses to ensure a completely customizable fit. Additionally, a new directional snap-fit system (similar to a snap button) between the helmet and cheek pad has been designed, which allows, in case of an accident and risk to the neck or head, for the cheek pads to be removed without the consumer having to be moved. This is a good new safety feature.
The helmet weight stops at 1040 g (M/L size), a full 200 g lighter than the previous Giro DiscipleT Mips despite the addition of many new technical features, chief among them the advanced protection system Spherical TechnologyT, designed and developed in collaboration with MIPST.
Structurally, the Insurgent SphericalT helmet features a pair of polystyrene foam layers that work together like a ball inside a bearing to redirect impact energy in the event of a crash. The outer layer is EPS, a rigid material suitable for withstanding high impacts; the other is a low-density EPP foam with the main characteristic of absorbing low-speed impacts. Other features include: the Flex gasket (patent pending) along the lower edge of the helmet, designed to reduce the role a full-face helmet can play in some collarbone fractures; hollow brow screw with a hex key shape for easy removal in case of visor tear-off; a third central hole, called the B-Hole, for adjusting the brow but which becomes the ideal mount for P.O.V. action cameras.
