- How to use the tool:
- The wear indicator of the sprocket teeth is used to determine the condition of the back teeth. It can be used to check 12 to 21 tooth sprockets. Procedure: The chain is placed on the sprocket and the tool positioned with its round end between the two teeth on the top of the sprocket. The last link in the chain is displaced by the sprocket and a force of 100 N or 10 kg is applied to the tool in the direction of rotation of the sprocket. Now the last link in the chain is moved towards the sprocket. If it pops easily to the cog the sprocket is in good condition and will run flawlessly even with a new chain. However, if the last link in the chain jams on the adjacent tooth end or if it has been forced to jump over the sprocket, the sprocket is worn and will need to be replaced. If the chain falls off the block while applying force, the sprocket is badly damaged and needs to be replaced.
