The new XTR hubs were developed for the highest demands in the MTB sector and constitute the crown jewel of the Shimano Off Road program. At Shimano, they typically take on the pioneering role in the development and implementation of revolutionary new technologies. In collaboration with DT Swiss, the Micro Spline freewheel was developed, which allows Shimano to use cassettes with enormous bandwidths and to use a small 10-tooth sprocket. At the same time, the freewheel principle was modified by freewheel pawls with toothed pulley. Thanks to the very fine teeth, the distance between the locking points is reduced to just 7.0°. Free travel during paddling is significantly reduced and always allows you the best possible start, both in the race and on the track. What remains is the durable and robust hub bearing: proven tapered bearing with hardened and polished steel bearing shells and stainless steel balls. In combination with the labyrinth and contact seals, excellent durability and the well-known smoothness of the hub are achieved.
